Hennie is an attorney, notary and conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa. He holds a BA LL.B from the University of Stellenbosch and a Post Graduate Diploma in Tax from the University of Cape Town.
Like several members of the Corporate Law Alliance, Hennie shares a strong legacy with Mallinicks. Before he joined Mallinicks, he was a member of the Andersen Tax practice in South Africa. Hennie joined Mallinicks in 1998 to start its corporate tax practice, and became a partner of the firm in 2000. With the merger of Mallinicks and Webber Wentzel Bowens in 2007, Hennie became a partner of the merged firm, and a member of its market leading corporate tax team. Besides corporate tax work, Hennie also practiced transactional and international tax work at Webber Wentzel and was involved in a number of landmark transactions.
While at Webber Wentzel, Hennie also developed specific sectorial interest in the ICT, retail, oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. Hennie has built up in-depth experience in the tax dimensions of corporate restructures and project finance, especially in their cross-border context.
Having joined the Corporate Law Alliance platform he can now apply this experience in the manner he would like to – by executing client briefs in a personally responsible, responsive and practical manner.
Hennie is also an executive trustee of the SouthSouthNorth Trust and an Associate of its corporate offshoot
